Winning idea becomes reality

A CU-Denver graduate who thought Denver needed a hair salon for men opened one Monday

Jung Park won $10,000 last year in a business plan competition during which he pitched his idea for a men's salon, citing the appearance of the term "metrosexual" in the language and the popularity of the TV program "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy." He was working toward his MBA at the time.

His turned his idea into reality with the opening of MetroBoom, at 1550 Platte St. in Denver. The salon will employ six full-time and three-part stylists as well as four to six massage therapists.

In addition to merely styling hair and offering massages, MetroBoom will offer fashion advice. The salon is open Tuesday through Sunday. MetroBoom opens Oct. 11 after celebrating its grand opening Monday.
